Victoria Hunter-Phillips

Year started at Kiyo:

2016

Stylist Level:

Level 6 Advanced Stylist

Specialty:

I specialize in creating beautiful colour through hand-painted balayage with advanced foiling techniques and transforming hair colour, volume, and length through the application of extensions.

Why Kiyo?

Kiyo is an education based salon that focuses on creating an environment that allows for each stylist to grow and become successful. You are given the opportunity to learn and become a better, more skilled stylist. I have been so lucky to be a part of such a wonderful team of stylists. I also love how sustainable the salon is! We carry clean and cruelty free products along with being a Green Circle salon, which means we recycle 95% of the materials that come through the salon.

Why did you choose this industry?

No two days are the same, I am always creating a new style or colour and I get to meet lots of new people.

Favourite Go-to product:

Pret-a-Powder! After struggling with limp fine hair I’ve found this product to be my go to for volume and longevity when styling my hair.

What are your major accomplishments in life and business?

From a young age, I found myself striving to be the best version of myself that I can be, so I believe that my ability to push myself and reach my goals is my greatest accomplishment. I have done this by taking time to focus on my mental and physical health and growing in my industry to becoming a successful stylist. I’m very happy with the path that I am on and I continue to remain optimistic for the future…I am also pretty proud of myself for facing my fears and swimming with roughly 8 nurse sharks on an adventure in Mexico. .

Who is your Instagram inspiration?:

Dominick Serna (@domdomhair) has a really fun vibe, great transformation photos and an edgy style of cutting modern bobs using mixed technique.

What are your favourite activities/hobbies outside of hair?:

I definitely consider myself to be an outdoor enthusiast. I love kayaking, hiking, and swimming in almost every body of water I stumble across. I feel incredibly recharged after spending the day out in nature, so I make sure at least one of my days off is spent on an adventure. I am an active member of a local gun range, as I enjoy target shooting. I also love to get out on my motorcycle in the summer and go for a ride.

What would be impossible for you to give up?:

My family, friends, cats, and Elephant Island’s black currant wine.
